Hey,
Just thought I'd post a quick note while I can because I don't know if I'll get an opportunity again or not. I don't know if we'll come home tonight again or what. *hopes not b/c driving for hours in the middle of the night on two hours sleep is not fun but better than having had mom drive w/ no sleep*
Anyway, Thursday night, nearing midnight, mom and I were getting ready to go to bed, and she heard dad moaning downstairs and ran down like, 'Alvin?! Alvin, what's wrong?' which naturally got my attention, and I rushed down after her. He was on the floor gripping his right arm (he said he was checking his pulse) and in some obviously serious pain in his chest. Mom called 9-1-1, and since the nearest hospital on our medical plan is a ways away, they took him to one nearby.
Then, guess what, mom comes home two hours after I got to sleep and we had to go down to Vallejo. They were transferring him so it was all on the hospital within our plan. Shocking, considering there's one closer, but he never updated the address listed on his membership so they were probably thinking they were getting him close to home.
Vallejo keeps him for a while, and then transfers him to see a cardiologist in San Francisco. All he told us was that he had a tear in his aorta and an anuerism.
Almost as soon as we arrive in San Francisco and he ends up arriving afterwards, he's put into surgery. They had to replace his aorta but were thankfully able to save his valve. So, he's still sedated and asleep right now, but just pray or whatever.
See you guys soon, hopefully, but right now I've got to go eat breakfast so we can leave for good ol' San Francisco and battle fierce traffic. Oy. The times we ever went there when we lived down in the Bay Area I can count on less than one hand.
So, see you guys.
Jen
