Cool! Bring it on...
I hope they make a good job of it; but then its arguably more straight foreward than LOTR... so should be up to scratch!

That would be awesome! Sil and the Hobbit. But I would be content just to see the hobbit. I really hope they do it

They could make a great many films out of the Sil: Trilogies within trilogies! The films would be feature length rather than epic, which would make a refreshing change...
The story of Turin
The tale of Maeglin; inter twined with the fall of Gondolin...
Of Beren (man) the one handed; his love for Luthien (elf), daughter of Thingol; and the quest set him by her father: To take a silmaril from the DarkestLord Morgoth. What a story!
The Exile of the Noldor and the closing of Doriath
so many... and so much more intense than the third age

I think the Sil is much, much more intense than the 3rd age. The books are more condense, which means that there is a lot of stuff in less space. It's hard to chew through. But in film form I think it would be excellent.
Or, as a TV show.

Personally, I am not a big fan of 'the hobbit'. I prefer LOTR a lot better, obviously. But it is an engaging story anyway!

Have you heard what PJ plans to do if he does do The Hobbit? He wants to make it into 2 films and then put a load of fluff in the middle. That would be really really bad. I hope he goes against that and just goes with the story that Tolkien originally wrote.

Fluff?
Sounds ominous... (or even promising:) like Gandaf entering Dol-Guldur or something...
It won't be out for an age though

NOOOO!! No one else can make the movies as well as Pete! That is a real shame...but what they were mentioning about another movie....i think the sil may be on the table.

no idea, but that would make sense... since The Sil came before The Hobbit... hmmmm...
i just hope that PJ gets his head out of his arse so they can get on with it...

i just hope that PJ gets his head out of his arse so they can get on with it... *crosses fingers* Sigh. Very much agreed. I heard talks of Sam Raimi directing the Hobbit, and I can't say I'm very excited about that idea. Everyone should kiss and makeup and PJ should start the project.

I cant imagine PJ would make too much of a mess of the hobbit, hes surrounded by LOTR fans when doing this sort of thing, I think he knows them too well and what they want (and what will happen if he screws it up) to do a bad job. What happened with all of that anyway? Last I heard he was fired, then he wasnt fired, and Ian McKellen said he was out of PJ was out... but I never really google this stuff, just read it in newspapers.
I would love to see the Sil made into an Animated series, if it were done properly, it could look so great, especially with people like alan lee and john howe or Ted Nasmith on board as concept designers, there are people in the industry now (people like john lasseter and Brad Bird or Pixar) who would make such amazing films with the material in the Sil.

That's what I was thinking. The Sil would make an excellent TV series - or something along that sort. Like a collection of short movies or something. There's so many interesting tales in the Sil... But I do agree, animation is defently needed for making the Sil... But it would be interesting to see how and who they would have portray some of the important elves

it could be excellent... it could be so bad too if they let the wrong people get their hands on it, the Hobbit and the LOTR cartoons from the 70s... bleh, THAT is what happens when you give LOTR to the same guy who did Fritz the cat!! Perhaps it wouldnt be so bad, shot in live action, but I could nmever imagine them putting the same budget into a series as they would into a feature film, and it would need a big budget not for it to look cheesey. Animation is deffinatly the way, as long as it was traditionally drawn and not handed over to disney's new CG butchery department.

Things have gotten regrettably quite ugly between New Line and Peter Jackson, there was a comment released by one of New Lines exec that accuses Peter Jackson of having a huge ego, most of this stems from the fact that Peter believes that NL owes him for some of FOTR, but they have closed the books on it and are not allowing anyone to examine them. Anyways, you can find the orginal article linked through this and Wingnuts response here: www.petridish.net/pics/24945/eiszmann04belegsdeath.jpgI am with Jackson on this that if New Line is so certain and insisting that they have NOTHING to prove, then there should really no problem in letting Peters Lawyers have a look through, come to the conclusion that all is well there and move on. I guess thats just too simplisitic and without ego

:-/I imagine there is, but that New Line is just dancing around the point, honestly, If it wasn't for there egos in this and they had just let Peter Jackson have his prove then none of this would have happened. Peter said it himself, no one likes to get involved in legal battles and I doubt he would be going through all this if he did not feel he had a valid point, and the fact that they have thrown up walls against does not seem any less suspicious. Shaye said that many of the Rings trilogy actors "suddenly, because, I'm guessing, of Peter's complaint," have declined to participate in celebrating New Line's 40th anniversary. "I'm incredibly offended," As is there right to do so? This Shaye guy is coming off as a huge tool, Yes, it is proably becuase of New Line slamming Peter Jackson that certain memebers of the cast, though I have no idea who, has proably declined to be part of this. I think its near impossible to work with these people and not develop a long running friendship where they are not going to turn around on Peter to smile for the camera and wish new line happy birthday, lame
