Interesting Plotline Anyone?

Well i happen to be a creative writing major and an enormous fan of Lord of the Rings, as well as nearly an author of my own Fantasy Novel series (We are still working on that one....) Anyway, i love Lord of the Rings and any site i can find that has Lotr as a theme, i want to thrive. So, i am hoping to get something started plotwise that will help get some activity around here. I am open to suggestions from everyone and hopefully we can pull something together. I am more than willing to be an antagonist if that is needed but if anyone else wishes for that job, by all means, i will just be a crony. Anyway, lets see if we can't create a great plotline here....

Out of ideas for now, although I sympathize with getting a bit attatched to sites. I did that.... and then the site died.

Anyway, like I said, nothing off the top of my head.

Unless we could think of something that would scare all the characters, or at least upset them. Every character is afraid of something, just like every human being is. So if we take those fears, combine them, and throw them at the characters, smother them with the fears, and force them to act purely on terror and the need to survive... it might be interesting.

Well there is an ultimate fail for you. Don't worry i still love ya. Anyway..um...i was thinking about timelines and this board is set about 100 years before Sauron returns to Dol Guldur so i was thinking about having something revolve around a character preparing for his return or having something revolve around a new enemy "for the time being" before Sauron returns.

No, i can just be an enforcer if i have to be. Anyone that wants to be an enemy is welcome to it. I don't like to take the lead roles.

Aha, no, I'm kidding. ;D I'm like that too, in real life. But I enjoy being evil... and a bit insane. I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

Anyway, I wouldn't object to creating another character.

I was thinking about creating another character but it takes a lot of effort on my part and i like Canos right now. But we do need to establish a villian and a good guy first

Yeah, I know. Applications take so much work... I hate doing them, enough to make me hesitant to actually CREATE a character.

Oh, and a good guy. Yes, those exist? Hm, I hadn't thought of that.

To clarify, the canon point in this role play is during the War of the Ring, which slingshots the actual timeline around T.A. 3018 or so, give or take a year depending on which role play you touch down in. Some role plays are set a few years before Frodo begins his journey, when the war is just beginning to take shape.

So, if you want to play with Dol Guldur, Gollum may have just been captured, or he may have just been released. Sauron has not been in Mirkwood for many years, and his stronghold is the location of three Witch Kings.

As for plot, we've not had a site-wide plot in a long time. The last time we tried, there weren't enough people to actively keep the plot going.

Would this just be something fun to role play, or would it be something that would actually affect everyone's character? For example, I'd have no problems throwing Colwen of Arwen into the role play, but, the events wouldn't actually "count" toward their histories or any role plays in the future. It would just be something fun to do for a while.

Anyway, I don't have any major ideas in terms of what everyone could participate in. Maybe an attack on Minas Tirith would be cool... most of the characters active right now have access of some form to the White City, and it would make sense, since there's so many baddies just east of it.

Well i suppose an attack on Minas Tirith could work but who would be in charge of the attack? We don't exactly have a dark lord of with king laying around. My character doesn't have control of an army...

It's a role play... does it matter who is in charge of the attack per say? Why can't the attack be played out in terms of the people who are in the city as it's under attack, or the soldiers fighting in the attack? Does there have to be a specific leader?

Yea i was just thinking of doing it that way. It certainly could work. Well i suppose we could just go ahead and go at it then. When do you suggest beginning?

Oh, you can start it any time you'd like. I'm sure everyone will jump in when they have the time.

Well that is the thing that worries me. I don't want the thread to be held up because one person isn't here. What i was thinking that we could do something that would be big enough that no one person holds up a thread. The only thing i could think to do would be to have different characters posting with each other all over the city. We would have to quote people a lot so everyone knew who was posting with whom. Like you could have pairs of twos or something posting with each other within the city and they could have the city be attacked however they saw it from their perspective. Then eventually on like a designated page the enemy can break in and we can go from there.

Excellent, although i was thinking of having the thread be in The Shire because Mordor doesn't have anyone in it right now. According to our timeline, the Witch King is in Angmar and he would be closer to the Shire than to Gondor. So i was thinking of just having it be in the Shire. Then different characters could post in the different suboards about the same battle. I plan for the battle to take over the whole Shire so everyone could see a different version of it through their eyes in their thread in their part of the subboards.

if your setting yourself up with Angmar what about an attack on Arnor instead? Bree and the such like its weak and an obvious choice for the forces of darkness I just wonder whether the witch king would even consider the shire worth his time.

Well yea, Arnor would work too. I mean it wouldn't really matter which kingdom was attacked, we would just need to make sure that everyone was able to post.

its true just thought Arnor would give more people reason to be there over the shire but however you want to play it

The great thing about the Middle-earth boards is, you don't have to go by the timeline, nor by the plot of the books. It's a 'whatever-you-want' to role play board, set in Middle-earth. If you want an attack on the Shire, make it so! If you want someone to burn Bree to the ground, go for it. It doesn't matter, as long as you have fun.

So, I saw a thread that might be the start of this... just to make sure, what is the title, and can everyone jump in?

So basically what i did was set up a beginning title thread. I don't want anyone to reply to that thread because it is the starter. What i did was write the thread and set up the battles so that every sub board would be involved that way every character can interact independently. Basically what i mean is two people can be posting with each other in Bree about the attack going on there, some more can post in Weatherop or Hobbiton about what is going on there. That way everyone can post in each sub boards with their own plots on how they see the battle going. That way everyone is involved and no one thread is slowed by one person no posting for a couple of days. We have multiple threads going on different boards but with the same overall plot. You might want to send a mass pm to everyone telling them the plot is open and ready.
