Well, generally speaking, I love Lord of the Rings. I believe that it opened the door for things like D&D and gamers everywhere. It is the original geek's freak. And, while I am no gamer, all of my friends have been involved with D&D or online games of that sort forever, and looking at what we've got here, I think we are doing Tolkien proud. I mean, I know his work was all about languages and the whatnots, and the symbolizim of WWI et al, but what occurred because of LotR (gaming and geeks everywhere uniting), I think this place rocks.
Meanwhile.
;D
Thoughts? Do you think that we have a good game? Do you think we cover the topics of LotR well, and that we know (generally) what we are talking about?

Generally speaking... I suppose its not as literal as i hoped, but then again there must be but a handful of people wanting to go as deep as I. Osse was always my favourite even though Ulmo sings all the best songs... so its half a douzen of one and six for the other really; or should i say ganerally. On serious note this is the best site for RP for my tastes. I wish i wasn't the first to answer this question but they're all so fashionably late don't you know.(?).

I think you already know how I feel about the site, Arwen, but here goes anyway.
For those of you who don't know, I've never read the Lord of the Rings books, and I've seen the movies only once each. In short, I'm not a fan by most standards. However, I do love the concept behind LotR. From what I've seen of it so far, the world of Middle-Earth seems almost more magical even than the high-fantasy games.
Given what's been stated above, I can't really say my opinion on whether you've stuck to the books correctly or not. However, I can say that from the informational sites I've looked on, I like the way this site is willing to bend a little bit to fit the imagination of the various players here, rather than just stick directly to the books, which I love.
All in all, I have to say that role-playing here has been one of the most pleasant experiences of my relatively short career(I began role-playing almost three years ago). Thank you, Arwen, for creating such a loveable and enjoyable site. ^^

This site gets better and better... The quality of posts and adherence to booklore increases with every stroke of the keyboard, well in!
I wish that Lasslaer and some of the other wanderers would return. They had much promise...

This site is amazing and in a way I actually feel like I am not up to the standard of many of the people on this site. My knowledge of before the War of the Ring is very poor, however I know the basics and I know my writing is pretty basic too but I love this site so much. It is great to find a Lord of the Rings site that is truthful to the works of Tolkien and does not consist of Saruman and Gandalf sitting in a forest eating Pizza.
I love everything there is to do about Middle Earth, it has got me into so many things, for example today a group of us went up to the castle we have in our town, and we asked around and we were allowed to dress up in armour and they told us about the weapons it was fantastic…and it is so nice to be able to connect with things like that.
Anyway I am rambling here so all I shall say is THANK YOU for the site and the chance to role play with such amazing writers.

Well thank you guys for saying that it really means a lot to know that people like my writing. But yes I agree with everything you both have just said…some people who join Role playing site find it unable to write more then 3 lines, and half of that is speech telling us how their parents were murdered and they raised themselves in a forest on I diet of berries and mud.
I also go on a Harry Potter RP site and some people find it so hard to write they copy and paste lyrics to songs. It really frustrates me. grrr I will end my mini rant now hehe!

At the risk of quoting this entire topic XD I'll just settle for : I agree.
I think you've done a wonderful job, Arwen, and everyone else here, and I think the standards are exquisite. I personally find it very frustrating to put in so much work for a character, only to be surrounded by people who don't care. It's a little disenchanting - but everyone here is right on par, and genuinely ENJOYS reading everyone else's work. Which is so nice. The environment here is wonderful. When I read Tolkien, or these posts which are equally as entertaining, he succeeds in drawing me in, emotionally. To the point that I cry, I get angry, and laugh. And chuck the book at the other end of the room XD only to scramble over to read the next chapter after I've taken a couple deep, healing breaths and assured myself that the Gwaith-i-Mírdain will COME TO THEIR SENSES about rebelling against C&G, or that Saruman will get his comeuppance for being so shortsighted.
Being that his work is so moving, I think it only fitting that we as Tolkien connoisseurs have a responsibility to, in effect, thank him. And the best way to thank an author is to respect and adhere to the world they've created. And you guys do that here. I find it moving and very inspirational. You set a standard that makes me want to do better.
I really can't stand Mary Sues. I can't STAND female characters in general who need a relationship and that is the basis for their development. I think it's very disturbing and frustrating - it's only reaffirming the stereotype that your intelligence, your talent, your eloquence are worthless. You are worthless unless you are being a promiscuous tart. It's a little offensive to me that there are SO MANY girls who basically embody the misguided concept that women are worth crap unless they're running after/obsessing over/seducing some guy.
Is there NOTHING else that your character and your imagination are capable of? It's such a blatant and pathetic plea for attention - it drips with Hollywood cliche with no genuine aspect at all. Attention! Some of these girls don't need to be online, they need to talk to their parents about getting some positive reinforcement as human beings. Apparently they're lacking a lot of self confidence if this is what they are obsessed with. It goes for the guys too. I think if people played their characters as people, not just flat representations of these idealistic hookups - like any real relationship, it's much more gratifying when you put the effort in to make a good character.
One would hope that people just don't randomly decide to get married because hey, you're hot, and I'm hot, so let's spawn equally vapid pretty boys and girls to continue the cycle. I think something that the romances on THIS site represent, versus those others, is that it's not about sex. The characters can have a conversation, there's an affection, tenderness, a genuine friendship beneath love - not lust, and THAT to me is much more beautiful and inspirational than the fling-threads (usually poorly written) that occur on so many sites. And I think it is so, so sad that so many people today believe that...physical is the only aspect - or the most important - of a relationship. Because that just has self-destructive written all over it. I mean, I'm no sappy gal, but...that's just depressing XD
I think if you want a dating site to reenact your romantic fantasies - hoorah for you. There are about 943035843 boarding school//high school themed sites based around JUST THAT, and I'm sure you can find one that caters to fantasy characters. So you get the pointy ears and the guy//girl of your choice. But WHEN you are on a site that focuses on a canon work - particularly a masterpiece like Tolkien's literature, I say by God, grow up and crack open a book. It won't bite : D
Ahem. The end! My two cents *tosses it into the pool*

I have to agree with everything that has already been said, I am genuinely so glad I have found this place. I have been a memeber of a slew of different sites, LOTR RP's and I will always join, give it a go and ultimately just leave (Though its never a concious thing like "I am leaving RIGHT now" Its more a case of I get bored and don't bother checking back) I really enjoy it here, Like Galadriel said in the C-box its like coming on and reading a bunch of short novels and I abseloutely love that! Being surronded by so many great writers is so inspiring becuase it is so encouraging. If I am working, I honestly do look forward to coming home, hoping in my pajamas with a tea and seeing what everyone has been up to, and what is usually a crap night is utterly forgotten as I become quite absorbed in these wonderfully vivid stories written with such passion and love for the original lore. So really, from the very bottom of my heart thank you all so much for that *Hugs for everyone* it's only reaffirming the stereotype that your intelligence, your talent, your eloquence are worthless. You are worthless unless you are being a promiscuous tart. It's a little offensive to me that there are SO MANY girls who basically embody the misguided concept that women are worth crap unless they're running after/obsessing over/seducing some guy. Oh man Galadriel, You are my hero! Well said! XD The thing is I know ALOT of girls like that, that they need some guy to make them feel important and doing things like loosing weight and looking good for this guy. Uhhh, I have an idea! How about doing those things for yourself *Gasp* Terribly selfish, I know but I can think of a million reasons why heart disease and diabetes just aren't fun. I have dated guys, So I can speak from the angle with experience that they can be more trouble then they are worth (Sometimes, not all the time. But in my experience...yeah) I was with a guy for 3 years, and you know what..It wasn't even a good three years. In fact the last year was downright hellish, in that everytime I told him that I was unhappy and wanted to end the relationship he would blackmail me with "If you leave me, I will commit suicide. Seriously, I will do it and it will forever be on your head" (Did he? No) I did end it about a year and half nearly ago, and its honestly boardering on slightly rediculous how happy I have been in that time (Once the stalking that came afterwards stopped as well of course) Why so many young girls want to immediately get married and start making the babies so young now is completely beyond me. Does no one have aspirations of a career of their own anymore? Travelling? Gaining any kind of independence? Of course I am not saying in a relationship that this all ends, No, not by a longshot. But I have a friend in mind as I write this and right now her goal is: Finish school, Marry pretty much immediately and get pregnant right away (Maybe not even in that order!) I worry for her, I really do and I fear that she will never really learn to stand on her own two feet (metaphorically) Honestly, that is very long winded I know but what I am basically trying to say is do whatever makes you happy, but do not base your own worth on other peoples standards. Honestly, My biggest concern when I was 16-17 was what I was going to do AFTER highschool, not who I was seeing during! Sorry for the rant, but I could not agree more with what Galadriel said about so many girls needing a boyfriend to consider themselves validated. But I digress, becuase he is the point and heres me, lol I did however find a song that I think pretty much sums up every single MS wandering around these days ;D >> P!NK: Stupid Girls<< LOVE that song I have a hard time evening calling these girls who are just on seeking a guy to make a fuss over them "characters" anymore, they are more like drones who are all single mindedly after the same thing, finding mates. When I see "dating threads" with posts that go "My charrie is free! he he he" and then the next character that posts if they are the write gender automatically becomes there next squeeze, Its funny but at the same time painful becuase then you get like a very wealthy Princess...Elf, lets say a very scruffy mortal pirate. You know, written properly that could make a very cool story, but in most cases, no, it doesn't work. Seriously, Dating sites are creepy enough, I do not want that concept brought to where I write. In fact, I want it to stay back a hundred feet at all times.

Wow guys... ^^ Thanks. I'm glad everyone else was tired of illiteracy too.
Anwyn, thanks for posting the link to that vid. I love Pink, she's very poignant about those sort of things.
As per the continuation of this place, what we really need is more people like you lot. Passionate, literate, fantastic.

LOL Indeed... though the worst past is they post as they act in real life so that makes it all much lame and hideous... I knew one of them, he would have girlfriends by internet and ten cry out whn they would drop him for real life boyfriends saying his life was empty and he would have a boring summer. I blocked him in the end, after trying to give ideas on what to do on summer he would answer things like: I don't like music, writting, have no interest in learning other languages, I don't want to work its summer.... I simply raised my hands took a deep breath and left him to deal with his own life. I can no believe he likes having no prospects about anything, he did not even liked making real life frends, saying they hated him in his town, I think where there is a problem there is always asolutin but you have to be patient to find it... I would simply write or read, ro play musical instruments but never depend on the Internet... I think you only life ONCE and have to make the best of it

Well I lurked on this site for quite a while and watched relentlessly whether or not certain threads had been updated. lol I love the literacy of the site and the amount of knowledge and accuracy to the booklore it is. lol Like most people here, I am sick of female characters solely after a relationship or just mary-sues in general. It makes it harder for people to post and relate too. Plus I am sick to death of posts that are 99% a character's thoughts? What on earth is up with that? I understand having thoughts to show how the character would be influenced but to sit and type up merely thoughts just to make your post look longer? Thats ridiculous I fear Galadriel has really opened up a kettle of worms!
