(is this the right place to put this? If so then....) There is going to be a LOTR online! It's called Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar and it's fully based on the book. What makes this game so cool is that it is one of those 3D Roleplaying Game! The graphics and different races look really fantastic. Here's the site: lotro.turbine.com/

It does annoy me when they make up new creatures! In a world so full of wierd and magical creatures... why make any up? Its beyond me, really it is... I mean the Aurochs I can live with (that apparently is what Boromirs horn came from), even the Bog lurkers (whatever thats all about); but Gorthorog! Rogmul!! Even the names sound aweful... ...Good to see the Neekerbreekers in there though! Yay! Saying that; I wasn't going to buy it any way, so... Do they care what I think? I thinkist not... lol

Hang tight, heres the science bit...
Gorthorog = Gor- + torog 'dread troll'.
Is that instead of Olog-hai? I guess its more 'PC' than 'Black Troll'...
...but then Torog more literally (remembering that Troll is not an english word - its norse) means: Torog = Tor- + rog 'mighty demon'
So its a 'Dreadful Mighty Demon' *Shrugs*
...Its a little tripple barrelled!
I suppose they should be allowed a little artistic licence... ( I am of course a purist at heart )

That sounds like a pretty sweet game to bad there is a fee though *snaps fingers* yes I could have sworn that Boromir's horn came from the Kine of Araw. Maybe by Torog they mean Balrog if it means "dreadful mighty deamon" I didn't notice if they had Blarog on there already.

Kine is another word for cattle or oxen. It comes from the Old English cý which is the plural of cú meaning "cow." (Like in my namesake)
The Kine were legendary white oxen that lived near the inland Sea of Rhûn... We may see them on our roaming tour of the north-east...Maybe an insight into how near Easterlings lived (hunting the White Kine on the plains about Rhun...)
Legends claimed that they were descended from the cattle of the Huntsman of the Valar, Oromë himself, and so they were named the Kine of Araw (Araw being the Sindarin form of Oromë's name).
Tolkien said he based them on: The Aurochs (pl. Aurochsen - though archaicly same as sing.) also called Urus
------------Quote-------------------Quote--------------------------------------------------- These two, fleeting references to the Kine of Araw are full of clues suggesting that Tolkien had modelled these creatures directly on aurochs. The first was their location, far to the east. 'Rhûn' simply means 'east', and it was in Eastern Europe that some of the ancient Ice-Age mammals of Europe found their last refuges. Aurochs and bison hung on in eastern Poland. Recent research shows how woolly mammoths survived in remote parts of Siberia -- the far east of Middle-earth -- until almost historical times, alongside the spectacular giant deer or 'Irish elk' (Megaloceros giganteus), a creature that bore antlers of amazing size ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently some scientist (a German, I think) has "rebred" aurochs
-Quote- Extinct wild ox (Bos primigenius) of Europe, the species from which cattle are probably descended. The aurochs survived in central Poland until 1627. It was black, stood 6 ft (1.8 m) high at the shoulder, and had spreading, forward-curving horns. Some German breeders claim to have re-created this race since 1945, but their animals are smaller and probably lack the aurochs's genetic constitution. The name has sometimes been wrongly applied to the European bison. -Encyclopedia Britanica-
Word root from german: Old High German: ūrohso : ūro Middle high German: ūrohse Obsolete German: Auerochs(e)(-n)
Interesting creatures!

Torog is 'mighty demon' but is definately sindarin for troll... corrupted in the 'black' speech to --> Olog, as in Olog-hai...
Balrog (Sindarin for "Demon of Might"; the Quenya form is Valarauko , Valarauco or Valaraukar)
Notice Vala- Rauko, literally "power-(godlike)-demon" The Sindarin word for Vala, Balan (pl. Belain), descends from the longer forms Balane ... from Telerin --> Bala (pl. balai) Q. Rauko "demon/ moster" --> Rhaug --> Raug (older Sindarin / Noldorin) --> (S.) Rog "dark spirit or demon"
Bal- Rog --> Balrog "powerful demon (of godlike proportions)"
Trolls are powerful, but not comparable to Balrogs; they are in a league of their own...
If the developers make that mistake then... goodness knows what else!

I don't but wish I did? I am sorely tempted though since I just looked at some of the screen caps and video from the site and its just so pretty to look at. Though firstly, I am not sure if my desktop has all those requirements, Its a good computer but not the greatest computer ever but has always suited for my purposes, and secondly is the monthly fee which is actually quite low compared to the WOW monthly one, and WOW has never held any appeal to me, the more I read about it the less it becomes, the more I read about LOTRO the more I want to say "Screw it" and sign up, but honestly with school requirements right now I can't afford it.

It would proably run off my brothers computer, becuase he has kept adding and adding to it over the years, but the chances of me getting near it are abseloutely nil. Espically now that he is down University for the summer. As for my own, as long as it has internet and a word program I am perfectly happy since I have never been huge into computer games but this is LOTR! and it is so incredibly detailed. I love writing fanfic but combine that AND fanfic and I would proably never leave the house

I couldn't play that long, all the clicking with the mouse would mean a sore hand and starring at the monitor for so long, my eyes get twitchy I guess is the word for it. I am the same way, wanting to explore and not constantly fight for XP. There was a game made a few years ago called "Lord the Rings: The fourth Age" and I have been meaning to have another crack at it, Its an RPG where you start as a manner of Gondor, then a female elf joins your company (Messanger of Galadriel I think, and she has magical abilities) Then some guy from I think Bree maybe, then another woman from Rohan and then a Dwarf...and Gandalf for a time at some point, Its pretty descent though the graphics are nowhere near this but its HARD and I have little patience with games that are turn based attacks.
I can get completely lost in Middle Earth without the game still, lol, but I definately do see the appeal of interacting using that medium.

My brother has said I can use his PS2 to play this as much as I want....as long as I buy him a PS3 first. Or I like the idea that I buy *myself* a PS3 better since it can play all Playstation games I kept getting knocked out by a small group of Orcs, I can't remeber in which area but I tried to bypass the point that triggers the attack, never worked though. They used an attack called "Murder of Crows" which is funny, but kept knocking out my entire team. I would definately like to give this game a go (Hopefully my computer will support it) but if I do, and find out what the monthly rate is, are you locked in for a certain amount of time or do you just pay as you go? My brothers friend, His older brother was having funds taken automatically each month from his credit card just becuase he would proably forget to pay it, then of course he stopped playing and forgot to cancel the automatic withdrawls >_<
