Ooh, that looks fantastic. It's very exciting, a new book by a guy who's been dead 30 years. <3 Lol, but seriously, that's super neat!

I am so incredibly excited to read this, April will not come soon enough! And I have alot of respect for Christoper Tolkien for going back and organizing his fathers work so that it might be published, unfortunately some of it still had to be trimmed back for the book, but it definately deserves to be read and enjoyed, not locked away in an archieve somewhere.

interesting...
I hope its worth the money, and not just a quick cash in. Many of CTs edited works get a little repetative

I keep checking Chapters website and it seems like everytime I do the release date for the book keeps changing April definately, but I thought it was earlier in the month and now it seems later. There are two editions, both are hardback and one is $30 (Twenty something if you order it now online) and another which is $80 which I imagine is the deluxe edition, I too love Alan Lees Work but I am definately more in it for the story than the pictures and will go for the cheaper version, becuase I can't justify spending that much on just one book. Just, yeah, no. I will for sure, hopefully by the time Chapters settles down and actually receives the book I will have sometime to settle down (undisturbed, thats the real challenge!) and read it.

It changed again not so surprisingly, lol. Now the site says April 4th, which is not so far away now. It is a big release book, so I hope thats the day that they actually have it in and not just start shipping it to the stores.

The 17th is a tuesday, and I got a call from my instructor of my surgery course today asking when I wanted to start clinical, as soon as possible! and I threw out two weeks from now, the day BEFORE this book comes out.
I have been waiting for that call for weeks and I am really excited after sooo many classes, lectures and seminars to at last getting it, Its going to be such an exciting week! ;D
Luckily the hospital is right around the corner from the bookstore I go to so I can pick it up on the way home.

Hooray! I am so excited! TORN has a counter at the top of the page right now, and while its an intresting idea its counting down the hours till midnight and there are no bookstores open to Midnight for this release, Chapters closes at 10 (The only exception being when a new Harry Potter book comes out) I am so excited, I really need to be studying but boo to that since I would not be able to concentrate with a new unread book just sitting there....I need a much bigger shelf for my Tolkien books now!

Mine is close too, It goes computer desk then my bookshelf (That I bought mostly for my Tolkien Books anyways ) Its mostly overcrowded becuase I have several editions of the same book, Like the hobbit for example. I have like 5 copies becuase I keep finding them, usually at second hand stores for a couple cents each. Too bad HOME books are never found so cheaply, They are amongst the most expensive I have bought for my library since they are all printed in the UK and then imported you are paying for both the conversion of price and then shipping as well. Though I don't mind becuase they are needed for the purporse of fleshing things out further. I am so excited about tommorow becuase even the regular edition of the book has some inserts of water colors done by Alan Lee which I am sure will be *GEORGEOUS* which were done just for the print of this book.

I got my copy, Weeee!!!!!!!
I made a special trip to the city just to get it, In truth I am going back to that same area tonight when I go out but I was woken up earlier by the damn woodpecker that lives in my tree and I could think about was going to get the book.
The only thing was I couldn't find it! I went to the Tolkien Section and it was not in, and I was kind of freaked so I checked on the computer and it said 56 copies in store now...and I couldn't find one! After wandering around adult fantasty for 10 minutes I did find a copy...back in the Tolkien section where I had first looked just on the lowest possible shelf imaginable.
Each chapter starts with a simple black and white illustration and even THOSE are really really good, the full color pages are wonderful too. Anyways *Deep breath* I am off to read.

There were only two copies out and rather hidden I would say, and I bought one of them I was kind of hoping they would have some kind of event, but nope, just another day at Chapters but AFTER I found it everyone got a smile, before I just looks becuase I guess I must have had a pretty hell bent on finding the book expression. The illustrations! Yes! Love them, Even just the simple pencil ones that Alan Lee has gifted us with in every chapter, My favorite is proably on the last page in the chapter "Turin in Doriath" of Beleg studying Anglachel, I just feel like "No! Get away from it, faaaar away!" but then again it won't be the same story if he just left Turin Or the illustration of a young Turin in the first chapter. I did the same thing as soon as I got back to my car, Didn't start to read but just finding illustrations I didn't buy the "Deluxe" version of the book, I mean it would be nice to have but I can't afford it right now, and secondly it was not availiable but I was so relieved that this one is also illustrated.

I keep getting the "Uh, but...Tolkien is dead, How he can be writing books still?" He is JRRT! He can do anything! lol I was trying to explain why this book is so important to me to my mom, becuase she is the only one who will listen to me about it, while my dad has actually read the three books at least and my mom has not, and will not...she at least *pretends* to listen. Though she will watch the movies, more specifically ROTK...even more specific, The army of the dead. Seriously, its her favorite part of all the movies. Everytime I have tried to sit down and read this today, I get pulled away again. I had an aunt pass away a few days ago, and visitation was today and while I didn't go (Personally do not agree with the concept of "visitation")But we had family from far out of town drop in out of the blue, they are always welcome but we were totally not expecting guests, and they were going to the visitation and then coming back again so we did a super quick clean of the house, and then they came back from the visitation and my dad came with them and before I knew it was time for class! Where two girls got in a total catfight and I just wanted to throttle them both which made me feel pissed off for the rest of the class We are all adults, effing act like it or get out! grrr Everytime I got through a page, bang! Another phonecall, or someone at the door, or my mom needing something. I think I will wait until everyone goes to bed to actually get into some serious reading, I know some people have read this all in one go, but personally, I am "savoring" it I guess you could say.

ha ha! Amazon.com keeps a running count of which book on its site has sold the most copies, and for the longest time it has been "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" which isn't released until June, but its been up for pre-order for quite sometime. Anyways, I just saw an article that when "Children of Hurin" was released that Harry Potter was knocked from its top spot, which surprised alot of people becuase lets face it, millions of younger readers are clambering for the last Harry Potter book, But Tolkien still holds a great appeal. Lol... talking about unspoiled I will not be able to get it until I go to England since they have such problems with getting English books in pain which sucks... I hope it is as good as it seems, I can hardly wait to gt it and I still have to wait about a month...
My English Literature professor said he did not find that book attractive and that Tolkien's work in general was not good, honestly I was more than shocked when I heard him say that, he said something alike when I told him about the book for the movie 300... I suppose everyone is free to think as he wishes lol...

Yes, I know what you mean though honestly speaking what I notice to happen in my Department is that literature professors think that the only way they can have the students attention is by making us read really violent books or with sex as the main plot, I have had five literatures this year and all of them have concentrated in it... even though every country has magnificent literature, specially epic, thy just made us read such books for oral exams, I even know a friend that told me that the question her professor made about the books was if she had liked them and felt hyper or something about it... Don't take me wrong... its not that I don't like it, but I think it can get tiresome...I think that is the worst way for me to feel delusion about someone, specially professors: people who are supposedly experts on the subject. I really miss my Spanish Literature teacher, I had him last year, he had so much passion for it he even made me feel interest toward "Don Quixote..." I will never forget how I enjoyed his class... Anyway, I am not going to listen to him, I will just read what I like... I have liked it all so far, I am planning to read Hesiod, Pusanias, and the tragedies of Aedipus, Hercules, Perseus and Jason, though he is not my favorite Greek hero, more like an anti hero, but I love mythology so no problem with that... And then I Will get Children of Hrin... Thanks Tin, I definitely trust your words more than his...

Indeed, I barely ever read or watch anything well commented on etc… if it only includes the narrow opinion of critics which are paid for such a job. I believe a good constructive criticism is always valuable but not EVERYTHING is terribly done in any book or film… I was studying North American Literature this semester and I felt it funny to find a ‘Review’ on ‘Hawthorne’s Twice Told Tales’ by Poe; I have always enjoyed reading Poe’s work for that momentary effect, shortness of work and intensity. In such review suddenly he turns to talk about what the ‘perfect poet’ should be, just like one of his contemporaries did in ‘The Poet’ (Emerson). I do appreciate them talking about what they thought s true poet should be but one was in context and the other wasn’t. Though reading through his writing career can be as interesting as reading a whole poetry book, such dark Gothicism, but at the same time Eternal Beauty, I am so intrigued, I really am…I can hardly wait for summer to come so I can read Poe again, Whitman, Cooper, etc… If it does not touch my soul, I do NOT consider it good, it's failed me, Funny you should say that, I consider that an important thing whenever reading, if it is something that does not leave such a mark I do not find it worthy, on the contrary, I feel so little interest I do not even pay attention while reading, hence my dislike in being forced to read books at the University. Not that I dislike reading, I love it ever since I was 11 or even earlier when my mother would read books to me until I felt asleep every night. But I think it is much more exciting for me to read books mentioned in class, etc… than books that are known world wide (sometimes). I do love reading Homer’s books, I have gone through them a couple of times now, but such intensity of the unknown, I always feel challenged, specially that time when my English Literature Professor said something like “There is a very special poem called The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.. though I doubt any of you would ever read it… understand it even.” – Just as class ended I went home to look for it on the net lol! I loved it! Indeed, the same happened to me this semester whilst reading Jean-Paul Sartre’s “Words”. It is his autobiography, but compared to André Gide, his style is so hard, even in Spanish, quite a brick to read if you ask me. I still have not reached the end of it, and I normally read super fast! I read, for example, Tess of d’Urbervilles in ONE week and it has almost 500 pages… Even when Sartre will be asked about in the exam I still don’t manage to read such book, and though I know he was an existentialist philosopher, his style is too hard to read, I fall asleep… Although, in fact, I would have been content enough reading UT and the Sil , I like the fact that Turin's story is under one cover. And I cannot help liking Turin, feeling a great empathy for him, finding him more interesting than any other Mortal character Tolkien ever wrote of. I always did have a soft spot for him, despite his flaws , or perhaps because of them, flawed characters always engage my interest, characters with tragedy woven into their lives. I think his killing of Beleg and his marrying his sister and his death and hers, and Hurin seeing Morwen at their sons grave, is one of the most poignant , heartbreaking writing I have read and Tolkien uses very few words to tear me up. I just can’t believe you actually said that! I also love that character! Ever since the first time I read that book my taste reached Turin best, then of course I also grew fond of Beleg, the sons of Fëanor and Turgon; Adrehel… I just loved those stories, but you are right, I have not read Turin’s part without tears in my eyes, it is so beautiful… Beleg’s loyalty and the Moires… (fate) how it had been foreseen the fatality of such sword and it came to be, it reminds me so much of Classic Myths, which I love as well

Just now I by chance came across a video someone has made about the Children of Hurin by using scenes from different movies. Now to say straight off, I think it would be nearly impossible to perfectly capture any of Tolkiens works on film, but considering what he uses the video is quite good and definately worth checking out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH2kv9xyUTA&mode=related&search=

That was definitely pretty interesting. It makes me want to watch Braveheart and the Princess Bride though...lol. Question...is Children of Hurin actually a story like Lord of the Rings or is it a grouping of different bits of history such as Unfinished Tales or Simarillion. Because parts of those books are reallly boring...not going to lie.

I actually finished the book ages ago; and am giving it another read now...
I love the epic tragedy of it all! You have to feel sorry for Turin; but you kinda get to thinking that he brings some of his troubles upon himself... lol
Great read; thoroughly recommend it!
