To my knowledge, the battle was called the Battle of Dagorlad. It was a very large battle in the War of the Last Alliance in year 3434 of the Second Age. Elves, Men, and Orcs were all involved in that battle.
One other thing I know about is that the Elves of Lorien fought there. They were cut off from the others in the fray and driven back into the marshes. More than half the elves died, along with their leader, Amdir. I'm assuming that the corpses of Men were those who were also driven back into the marshes, or that they went to help the Elves in their fight against Sauron's forces.

You freak! You must be possesed by Grima, to think such horrors. Even the black gate or a dead guy is better!

*blink* I dunno about that. Grima's not such a bad guy, anyway. I'm sure I'd be in on the whole Grima/Brad Dourif craze if I was straight, actually. xD
Well, if a dead guy is better, than the dead marshes are fantastic. They're full of dead guys, after all.

Hey, JR? Let's keep the name calling to a minimum please. Our lovely Grima is not a "freak", and she's allowed to like whatever she wants to like.

Sorry to sound so witchy, JR. I'm sure that your comment was not meant to be mean. (I call my friends names all of the time.) It's just the people on this board are so nice, and I'd like to keep it that way. Sometimes it hard to tell when someone's joking online.

Meh, no need for apologies and all that. *waves apology away* S'alright. Like KC said, I'm sure you didn't intend to be mean.
And the battle did happen before Sauron's fall, yes.
